2020: Embrace the Suck
Military language. Maybe military language should be considered an actual language, as it currently is not. From “Blue Falcon” to “Squid”, many of those terms are now leaking out into the real world. One of my favorites has entered into this realm: “Embrace the Suck”.
The term supposedly has ideological roots in Buddhist or Taoist culture. Reminders exist to accept the bad times as well as the good, and accept that there is a path forward. So many veterans have adopted the term to provide support for them as they struggle through the transition to civilian life again.
Let’s Get Through This
But here, in 2020, Embrace the Suck means something a bit different to me. With all of the chaos going on about COVID-19, Embrace the Suck means let’s just get through this. It is ridiculous to hear about violent acts related to facemask arguments. If that means wear a cloth mask into a grocery store- let’s do it- because that could help to mean that we can buy ourselves more time to develop whatever needs to be developed to overcome this horrible disease process. If we need to carry hand sanitizer every day, let’s do it.
Let’s get through this crazy period in our timeline, so we can come out on the other side stronger and all together.
