Kirsten has worked with various populations as a Respiratory Therapist and as a Social Worker. Her work in the community continues to grow. In 2020, she received the Outstanding Commitment to Service award from the PhD Program at the University of Alabama. This was a testament to her continued action with various programs and non-profits within the community.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Kirsten assisted with technical support for the virtual monthly meetings. Kirsten transitioned into the executive council, where she helped to coordinate and plan town halls focusing on important community issues for veterans including military & veteran families, and a response to the end of GWOT and the fall of Afghanistan in August 2021.
Kirsten has spent time with the Alabama Head Injury Foundation. She helped to co-coordinate their fifteen week pilot caregiver program in fall of 2020. She also is on an interdisciplinary committee serving on the Bright Idea three day intensive summer camp for TBI survivors.
Kirsten spent time as a MSW intern at zero8hundred. zero8hundred is a non-profit that supports transitioning service members at the end of their military careers. She also served on a pilot program providing support for military sex offenders.
The Sexual Assault Prevention and Recovery Program is a program that provides support for Navy individuals who are victims of sexual assault. Kirsten served as an advocate. Her role was to escort a victim through the process of reporting, medical examinations, and towards other methods of recovery.
