On December 8th, HillVets and Wounded Warrior Project announced that I was the recipient of their inaugural D.C. fellowship. For six months, I will work in the Office of the For Country Caucus within the House of Representatives. Following that, I will work for six months in the Government & Community Relations Office at Wounded Warrior Project.

This is an amazing opportunity, and one I do not take lightly.

A view on my daily commute.

The For Country Caucus is a bipartisan group of Representatives within the House of Representatives who are also military veterans. Those individuals are willing to put policy above party to best serve the people. Main issues that the caucus focuses on includes AI & Cyber initiatives, Veterans initiatives, and National Service initiatives.

The Government and Community Relations Office within WWP seeks to advocate and educate anyone and everyone about issues that modern day veterans face. Focusing on big bucket issues such as female veterans, toxic exposure, and caregivers, the GCR team helps keep veterans in important conversations.

I am excited to be immersed in what social workers call “macro policy” efforts. This is a very important place for social workers to be. Social workers are a big part of the decisions being made that impact communities around the nation.
